Conjure

Conjure is a word we hear often or something being conspired or contrived.  However, it has a far more sinister meaning, perhaps misused or wrongfully used.  According to Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary 1934, to conjure is to summon a devil or spirit by an invocation and incantation; to practice magic; to call on evil solemnly.  It means to evoke or bring forth like a scene of horror.  To conjure is to participate in active witchcraft.  It is to conspire with evil spirits.  It is an act of intersection by invitation to spiritualism, divination, which is forbidden by God.  Conjuring is summoning spirits, ghosts, or the devil by a practiced ritual, which is a form of religious ceremony.  It is an act of sorcery, power gained from spirits.  Conjuring invites the supernatural power of darkness into a situation or to put a hex or curse over a person.

Deuteronomy 18:10-14 warns against anyone practicing divination, sorcery, witchcraft, casting spells and omens, or calls up of the dead (necromancy).  Anyone who does these things is detestable before the Lord.  Leviticus 19:31 says bringing or seeking out spirits will defile you.  Leviticus 20:6 says “I will set my face against anyone who turns to mediums and spirits to prostitute themselves by following them.  King Saul died because he consulted a medium, the Witch of Endor for guidance instead of turning to God.

Conjure isn’t a word to use loosely.  If an organized curse is spoke over you…you were conjured against.  A curse is always spoken.  Words have power…the power to speak life or death…to speak blessings or curses.
